Who can attend Eastern Tech?

Eighth graders who live in the Northeast Area of Baltimore County and reside within the catchment of Eastern Tech are eligible to apply and will be provided transportation. Students outside of the catchment area may apply, but transportation will not be provided by Baltimore County.

What are the entrance requirements for Eastern Tech?

In addition to submitting an application to the Magnet Office postmarked no later than December 1, 2007, students are required to attend the admissions assessment date scheduled for January 16, 2008 and January 17, 2008. Students with a last name that begins with “A-K” should report to Eastern Tech at 5:15 p.m. Students with a last name that begins with “L-Z” should report to Eastern Tech at 6:45 p.m. On this date, students will take a math and language arts assessment. In addition, students will write an essay explaining their interest in the program for which they are applying as component of the assessment.

Other factors affecting admission include the student’s 8th grade math course, attendance rate, and math, English, social studies, and science grades.

What are the math requirements for Eastern Tech?

The math requirements vary according to the career major. It is recommended that all applicants be enrolled in Algebra I (or a more advanced math course) in Grade 8. All applicants are required to take an assessment (see entrance requirements for details) which will measure the student’s proficiency in both math and language arts.

Where can I get an application for Eastern Tech?

Applications can be obtain from the Guidance offices at Pine Grove Middle, Perry Hall Middle, Parkville Middle, Stemmers Run Middle, Golden Ring Middle, and Middle River Middle Schools. Applications are also available at Eastern Tech. In addition, applications may be downloaded from www.bcps.org/offices/omp.

What is the deadline for submitting an application?

All applications must be postmarked no later than December 1, 2007. No applications will be accepted after the deadline.
