Eastern Tech Dress Code
Eastern Technical High School has maintained a tradition of excellence for over 35 years. The Mission Statement has guided students, faculty, staff and parents as we have made decisions over the years. Because of the achievements of Eastern students, the school has been named a Maryland Blue Ribbon School and a U.S. Department of Education New American High School.
One tradition that is firmly established at Eastern Tech is the dress code. The purpose of the dress code has always been:
- to prepare Eastern students for the world of work
- to insure safety at school
- to respect the dignity of every individual
The administration and faculty at Eastern Tech appreciates the cooperation of every parent and student as we begin another school year. While we realize that styles have changed since the inception of the dress code, we continue to be firmly dedicated to the principles that guide it. Eastern’s dress code will be in effect during the school day, from 7:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. and at school-sponsored activities as announced.
- Dresses, blouses, shirts, and tops must have sleeves
- Pants/slacks must be hemmed and ankle length (no capris, gauchos, crop, etc.)
- Shoes must have closed toe
- Skirts must not be shorter than three inches above the knee
- All clothing and other items (jewelry, etc.) depicting/suggesting messages about drugs, alcohol, sex, violence, and/or foul or abusive language or that present either a dehumanizing message or a danger to others (including but not limited to chains, dog collars, metal stud bracelets, pointed rings, etc.)
- Clothing with tears or holes that may expose undergarments (or have holes that are more than three inches above the knee)
- Shorts and Capri style pants (NOTE: These are allowed on Casual Fridays only and must be no shorter than three inches above the knee.)
- Flip-flops/sandals
- Pajama pants/sleepwear
- Leggings or leotards worn with extremely short skirts, sweaters, or jackets
- Exposed midriff
- Low-cut, revealing tops
- Hats (unless required in designated technology labs or specific work situations, or for medical reasons), head wraps, visors, bandanas, sweatbands, etc.
- Sunglasses (unless approved by the school nurse for medical reasons)
Because the world of work has made adjustments in recent times to accommodate more casual clothing on Fridays, Eastern Tech High School will be allowing students to make the following adjustments to the Dress Code on Fridays. Good judgment is requested during cold winter months.
- Shorts that conform to the “skirt” rule – no shorter than three inches above the knee
- Capri pants may be worn
